3 Potential Supplements for Diabetes

When searching for supplements for diabetes, you are going to
run into more than a few snake oil salesmen who want you to believe that you can achieve miraculous results without having to do any effort or take any responsibility so long as you “act now,” and buy their products. I wish I could promise you that these claims were all true and that you could take a pill and cure your diabetes forever, but, unfortunately, that is not the way it works. Still, even if you have type 2 diabetes, there are a number of different supplements that will be beneficial to you for different reasons.

Cinnamon

The most popular supplements for diabetes involve the use of cinnamon, and it is the one that has received the most attention in the press. While it is useful in helping to control type 2 diabetes, a lot of the attention is hype. Still, it is a tasty supplement to the diet that is quite easy to work into your meal plan. Just take a 1/2 teaspoon or so after each meal for the maximum benefits.

Garlic

Garlic has been popular throughout history as a cure for a wide range of ills, and has recently garnered a great deal of attention in its ability to help treat high blood pressure. This is important to a diabetic because high blood pressure is one of the side effects of type 2 diabetes, and is one of the ones that leads to so many other problems down the line. Just remember to speak with your doctor before you start taking garlic supplements, especially if you are taking blood pressure pills, blood thinners, or other prescription medications.

Coenzyme Q10

CoQ10 is one of those supplements that naturally occurs in the body, and in decreasing amounts as we age and our health deteriorates. It is used primarily to support healthy cardiovascular function and to reduce blood pressure, so care needs to be taken if you are already taking any other prescriptions, especially ones such as blood thinners. Still, the positive effects regarding blood sugar control have not been reliably demonstrated in a laboratory setting.

There are many different supplements for diabetes that promise fast results. The sad truth is that there is no such thing as fast results when it comes to controlling type 2 diabetes. While it can be brought under tight control through dietary and lifestyle modification, and the use of supplements can be of help in getting there, pills alone will not cure your diabetes. As with so many other things, it keeps coming back to dedication, smart decisions, and hard work.
