Essential Diabetes Health Care Products Part 2

Welcome to the second part in our series where we clear away the confusion about what diabetes health care products are most important to actually controlling your diabetes and staying healthy. In the first part of our series, we started by pointing out that you absolutely had to have a blood glucose monitor for proper feedback, and fitness equipment to help keep you in shape and burn up that extra sugar in your blood. In part 2, we will continue by pointing out a few nutritional products that are important to maintaining diabetic health.

Calorie Counter

A calorie counter or calorie log is important for a diabetic for quite a few reasons. The first is that you need to know how many calories you are eating each day, because weight loss is one of the best ways to treat diabetes. Second, you want to know what the macronutrient breakdown of your food is. Sugars and refined carbohydrates need to be strictly avoided because they are the primary cause of blood sugar spikes and high blood sugar levels.

Fiber Supplements

Registered dieticians and doctors agree that while people need plenty of fiber in their diets, diabetics need even more. They also agree that most people consume far less fiber than they should each day. Many people have difficulty working fiber into their diet, and fiber supplements are a good way of picking up the slack.
Fiber is an important diabetes health care product because when there is plenty of fiber in the diet, it slows the absorption of glucose into the bloodstream, which helps to balance blood sugar levels and avoid nasty blood sugar spikes. Fiber also swells in the stomach, which helps you feel fuller longer without having to consume as much food. This has the added effect of helping you to lose weight.
Fiber supplements for diabetics come in many forms, but there are a few considerations that you will want to take into account. The first is that you want to avoid anything that is flavored or chewable. These products usually contain additives and sweeteners that you want to avoid. Second, you want something that can be easily mixed into water or other foods, as this makes it much easier to take them regularly

Kitchen

Okay, this is one that you already have, but it is included here in order to make a point. Part of the reason that diabetes is rising in prevalence more and more every year is that we are eating out too much and depending on too many processed foods. The same is true when it comes to the rising levels of obesity in the world. Surprisingly, one of the best solutions to both of these problems is to start cooking for yourself.
When you start cooking for yourself, you know what exactly is going into your food, so you know what exactly you are eating. This is important to diabetes health care because aside from exercise, the most important factor when it comes to keeping your type 2 diabetes under control and keeping your blood sugar levels even is to control what you eat. While the full breakdown of a healthy diabetic diet is far too extensive to include here, a basic outline is to say that your diet should be primarily lean meats and high-fiber vegetables.

There are so many diabetes health care products out there that it can seem impossible at times to know what exactly you need and what you can leave behind. Since diet is one of the most important factors when it comes to keeping diabetes under control, it is very important that you know how many calories you are consuming, where they come from, and that they are from natural sources. Supplementing your diet with fiber is also an important part of balancing high blood sugar levels and staying healthy well into the future.
